Edweezy - Cold Streets

In the planning stages of our music video, my group, Edward, Jadar, Moshope andI created and presented a treatment to the class, the video of the presentation can be found in the videos tab. This was essential so that we could receive feedback almost immediately in the early days of the task, this made it easy to amend our idea to the responses given by the class which is also our target audience, teens aged between 11 and 19 years old.

In our treatment we spoke about the narrative ideas for our music video, these were relative to the song we chose as the lyrics are very descriptive. We also discussed the types of music videos which inspired us and these were Dave's PictureMe, Tion Wayne's Me or the Lifestyle and Prince Rapid's Whats Good. We concluded that Daves mise-en-scene, Tion Wayne's narrative, and Prince Rapids editing would be on inspiration to us.We introduced our actors which would be Edward, Jadar and Moshope, our Props which were a crown, a book and a ring and our location ideas which were in a studio and outdoors on the streets, based off the theme of the song where he is trying to get off the streets and into the studio to make music. We discussed the best channels for broadcast, which we decided would be Youtube, however, due to issues with the rights to the song we were forced to upload our music video on Vimeo.

The response we received from the class was mostly good however, we received some pointers and questions which we used to consolidate our ideas. The first one was where we are going to film our music video, we responded by saying as the song is called 'Cold Streets' we will be filming on the streets of East London as this is where gang life starts as well as to show contrast between shots of him in the studio recording music, we had inspiration for this from one of Vianni's video where he is recording his music video in the recording studio.

More feedback we got was that they liked how we thought about all our ideas thoroughly, and all of our ideas related, also that we planned to go to different places and areas to show how he started from the bottom and work his way up, which he did in our final piece. We were asked how are we going to add a narrative into the music video, which we replied that we will bring in an extra in which Edward would rap the song to as it can work as a monologue almost, however, we decided against this as it is hard to find reliable people to be extras in music videos. Instead, we decided to create scenes which would act as narration such as the scene where he is getting out of bed.

We were inspired by the click as transition editing technique as shown in Prince Rapids music video, our target audience was really impressed by and really like this however during filming and editing we came to realise that would be harder to carry out than it looks.

Feedback at this stage of planning was very essential as it allowed for us to change our ideas to what our target audience would prefer.
